Please read this entire page - it contains information about registering drivers, paying for drivers and how to submit the driver paper work

Drivers compete in one of the following classes:

Step-Van, Straight Truck, Flatbed, Sleeper, Twins, Tanker, 3 Axle, 4 Axle, 5 Axle

 

The competition is limited to 6 drivers per class from each GMTA member company plus the returning Champion (2023) of that class.

 

No class or driver changes, including onsite, will be accepted after April 3. Class changes made before April 3 will require a new driver entry form to be submitted.

Eligibility Requirements

To compete, a contestant must:

  1. Have been continuously employed as a truck or step van driver by their present employer since August 16, 2022.
  2. Have driven and performed the regular duties of a truck or step van driver since August 16, 2022.
  3. Have not been away from the regular duties of a professional truck driver beyond an aggregate of 30 calendar days since August 16, 2022.
  4. Have not been involved in a fleet motor vehicle or motor carrier vehicle accident August 16, 2022.
  5. Have the proper class CDL plus required endorsement(s) for the class of competition.
  6. Hold a CDL from or have been occupationally domiciled in the state of Georgia. Occupational domiciled is defined as the terminal, garage or other operating base from which the driver normally works is supervised and/or where the employer is corporately headquartered.
  7. Have not served as a member of any State Trucking Associations Truck Driving Championships Committee since January 1, 2023.
  8. Have not received any form of pay, bonus, prize or other consideration for time spent in practice as set forth in the Truck Driving Championships Rules & Procedures.
  9. Be employed by a member of the Georgia Motor Trucking Association. 
  • Owner-Operators are not eligible to compete in the TDC program unless they are contracted to a single company.
  • Those who drive professionally and also serve as driver trainers are required to spend 60% of their time serving as a professional driver (behind the wheel) and must perform the regular duties of a professional truck driver for a minimum of 1200 hours annually.

Driver Registration

1. Purchase Entries for your drivers

    • To complete the driver entry purchase you will need the following:
      • Driver's Name
      • Class of Competition
      • Rookie Status
      • A form of payment

2. Submit all registration forms and MVR, and CDL to GMTA prior to the deadline, the start of business April 3, 2023.

3. You will receive a confirmation email with your drivers' names and classes, please verify all information in this email is correct and confirm with Emily Crane @ GMTA.

CDL & MVR Info

Current MVR – must be pulled within six months of May 10, 2023 (Nov. 10, 2022) and show that the driver's medical card is valid.

A CDL copy is unnecessary, as the information is provided on the MVR.

If a driver's CDL or Medical card expires by 4/28/2023, a new license or Medical card must be provided by 4/15/2023 before they are eligible to compete.

As the entering company, you are accountable for ensuring that your competitors meet the eligibility criteria. They must have a valid CDL with appropriate endorsements, a clean accident record, and a current Med Card at the time of competition. GMTA, will validate the class winner's information and disqualify any participants who lack current or valid information.
