Jason Fischer

Chick-fil-a - Director, Supply Chain - Distribution

Jason Fischer serves the Chick-fil-A Support Center by leading the distribution team for the US business. Chick-fil-A is privately held and family owned and is the largest quick-service chicken restaurant chain in the United States, with over 2,200 locations in 48 states and the District of Columbia. In 2016, annual sales were over $8 billion.  With 49 consecutive years of positive sales growth, Chick-fil-A has set itself apart by pioneering innovations and delicious products.

Jason started his career in distribution working in the Wal-Mart Supply Chain, where he held various positions learning the value of leadership and innovation.  Previously, Jason served as the Vice President of U.S. Operations for Martin-Brower.  Jason provided leadership and support for Martin-Brower's distribution across the U.S. Business. Martin-Brower is McDonald's largest distributor in the United States, Canada and Latin America, delivering over 251 million cases of product to more than 9,600 restaurants each year. Martin-Brower operates 15 distribution centers in the United States, six centers in Canada, one in Ireland, one in Puerto Rico, one in Costa Rica, one in Panama, and four in Brazil with over 4,000 employees. Martin-Brower also provides distribution services for Chipotle restaurants. 

Jason holds a MBA and a BS in Business Administration from the University of Florida. Jason and his wife, Veronica, have a daughter, Riley Grace, and live in the Atlanta area. In 2018, Riley will attend the University of Florida.  She will play volleyball for the Gators.  If they are not hanging out or at volleyball tournaments watching Riley play, Jason can be found on the golf course.


Mike Casteel

United Parcel Service - Director of fleet Procurement

Mike has been with UPS for 38 years.   His experience spans a variety of managerial positions in operations, supply management, risk management, energy and automotive related procurement roles.

Currently, Mike is responsible for all fleet related procurement activities for UPS in the US and Canada, and has a leading role in developing the financial strategies involved in the deployment of the UPS alternative fuel fleet, including the large scale natural gas fleet projects currently underway.

Mike holds a bachelor’s degree in business and multiple certifications in negotiations, supply chain management and is a certified procurement manager.

Dave Reiss

WestRock - Senior Director, Enterprise Logistics Operations

Dave Reiss has been in the logistics and supply chain industry for 22 years and is currently serving as the Sr. Director, Enterprise Logistics Operations for WestRock, Atlanta, GA (Fortune 500 - #190 Ranking). Before his work at WestRock, Dave held logistics leadership positions at The Home Depot (Fortune 500 - #23 Ranking), Simmons Bedding Company, and The Coca-Cola Company (Fortune 500 - #64 Ranking) specializing in logistics strategy, operations, and procurement.  Dave graduated from Michigan State University with a BS in Forensic Science.  Dave currently resides in Atlanta, GA with his wife Taryn and their two kids Madison and Jake.  Dave enjoys spending time with his family, watching baseball, college & pro football, and working out.


ROn Guzzi

The Home Depot - Senior Manager Transportation Carrier Relations

Ron Guzzi serves as a Senior Manager of Transportation and Carrier Relations for The Home Depot, the world’s largest home improvement retailer. Guzzi's responsibilities include managing all domestic transportation carriers within the Home Depot's network including, carrier on-boarding, all carrier bid activity, performance compliance, financial impact to business, contracting, etc.  Ron has served in various transportation roles over the past twenty years at The Home Depot, additionally he served in the US Army reserves for seven years. Guzzi is a self proclaimed "over the top" football fan, specifically for Penn State and the New York Giants.  He attended college at East Stroudsburg University, in Pennsylvania.


Eric Starks

FTR Associates - President & CEO

Eric Starks is the President of FTR Associates, the industry leader in freight transportation forecasting for over 20 years. Eric has spent his entire career in the freight transportation sector and is a leading researcher in freight modal share analysis and forecasting. His background includes research in both rail and truck freight movements and asset equipment purchases. He currently is one of the premier industry forecasters on transportation equipment demand for rail cars, commercial trucks and trailers.

Eric is a frequent speaker at Wall Street analyst meetings, association events, and private meetings. He has a unique ability in communicating to his audiences how the economy, logistics, freight, and equipment demand impacts their respective business.

Eric holds a BS in Finance from Indiana University and is married and resides in Bloomington, Indiana, with his wife Shannon and four children (all boys) who keep them busy.


Brian Kinsey

Brown Integrated Logistics, Inc. - President & CEO

Brian Kinsey has spent his entire 42+year career in logistics and transportation, the last 37 plus years in trucking and freight-related businesses.  He has held leadership positions at North American Van Lines, Landstar System, Greatwide Truckload Management, and, for the last nine and a half years, Brown Trucking Company and Brown Integrated Logistics.  He has been involved in spec’ing and purchasing rolling stock since 1991. He has been an early adopter of anti-lock brakes, vehicle conspicuity, daytime running lights, wide-base tires (super singles), disc brakes, tire inflation systems, and other proven safety-related innovations.

Brian received his BS in Behavioral Management from Georgia Tech and a MBA from Harvard University.


Dustin Barney

AGCO Corporation - Director, Logistics and Materials Management North America

Dustin Barney is the Director of Logistics and Materials Management for AGCO in North America. Dustin is responsible for all Transportation activities for the North America region and the functional North America Materials Management strategies. The North America Materials Management and Logistics team supports AGCO’s Global Supply Chain long-term strategy by providing an optimized and balanced approach between cost and service in areas such as inventory management, supplier performance, ERP software implementation, material distribution and warehousing. Dustin has spent the past 15 years in various Supply Chain roles in the agriculture and mining sectors. Prior to joining AGCO in 2013 Dustin worked for Caterpillar in their Global Mining division. AGCO is a global leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of agricultural equipment through well-known brands including Challenger®, Fendt®, GSI®, Massey Ferguson® and Valtra®. AGCO headquarters are in Duluth, GA and it is listed as AGCO on NYSE.

Barney Holds a BA in English from West Liberty University in West Liberty, WV and a Masters of Business Administration from Waynesburg University in Waynesburg, PA.


Karla Staver

Saia Motor Freight Line, LLC - Director of Safety and Claims Prevention

Karla Staver is Saia's director of safety. In this role, she oversees Saia's Safety Department and provides leadership for the company's regional safety management team. Additionally, Staver's responsibilities include ensuring all drivers understand and follow company and Department of Transportation policies and procedures, overseeing all safety training, employee/company compliance with all government regulations, and the reduction and prevention of injuries and accidents.

A 15-year transportation industry veteran, Staver previously worked as Saia's regional human resource manager for both the company's Atlanta and Charlotte regions. She also has served as a Saia regional safety manager and safety administrative supervisor.

Staver and her husband live near Canton, Ga. They have two adult children and two grandchildren.


Gregory M. Feary

Scopelitis, Garvin, Light, Hanson & Feary, P.C. - Managing Partner

Gregory M. Feary is President of the firm and also serves as a managing partner who practices primarily in a wide range of areas including transportation laws, independent contractor laws, transportation insurance laws, legislative support and transportation contract matters. He is the Vice Chair of the ATA/NAFC Risk Management & Insurance Advisory Committee and a member of the ATA Insurance Task Force for which he serves as Chairman of the Lawyer’s Subcommittee. He also served as ATA’s national transportation insurance law counsel throughout the 1990s. He was a member of the Advisory Board of Purdue University's Center for Transportation Distribution Logistics.  Mr. Feary was named to The BTI Client Service All-Stars 2012 and 2016 list and as one of the top 5% of attorneys in Indiana by the Indiana Super Lawyers® peer selection survey.   He is also AV Peer Review Rated, Martindale-Hubbell’s highest peer recognition for ethical standards and legal ability, and recognized as a “Top Rated Lawyer in Transportation” by Martindale-Hubbell™ and American Lawyer Media. Mr. Feary currently serves as an Adjunct Professor of Law-Indiana University, Robert H. McKinney School of Law.  

Mr. Feary has created and counseled many captive insurance companies and is the author of The Definitive Industry Primer on Occupational Accident Insurance in Trucking. He is also the author of both Independent Contractor Employment Classification:  A Survey of State and Federal Laws in the Motor Carrier Industry, 35 Trans. Law J. 139 (2008) and 1995 Developments in Workers' Compensation, 29 Ind. L. Rev. 1139 (1996) and drafted Indiana's law deeming owner-operators of trucks to be independent contractors for purposes of workers' compensation.


Rob Moseley

Smith Moore Leatherwood - Partner, Transportation and Logistics Industry Leader

Rob Moseley is the head of Smith, Moore and Leatherwood’s  Transportation Industry Group representing trucking companies, brokers and logistics companies (and their insurance carriers), with disputes involving commercial transportation accidents, federal & state safety regulations, commercial insurance coverage disputes, freight claims, and other disputes involving trucking companies. He has tried over 75 cases to jury verdict in federal & state courts of unlimited jurisdiction.

Rob is an expert in contract review and drafting, and has a well-earned reputation as an advisor who helps trucking companies proactively assess and address risk both internally and externally.  Mosely is also one of the leading experts on CSA and HOS issues and his breakout session will focus on those areas.


MAtthew P. Stone

Smith Moore Leatherwood - Partner, Transportation

Matt Stone's practice is focused on resolving motor vehicle liability claims against companies, drivers and insurers in the transportation industry. He represents motor carriers, specialty haulers, bus lines and motor coaches, waste haulers, mobile cranes and emergency and non-emergency transportation providers. He has extensive experience handling claims from the on-scene investigation through trial and appeals and has been named a "Top Rated Lawyer" in Transportation by Corporate Counsel, The National Law Journal, The American Lawyer, and The Daily Report.

Matt also regularly represents automobile dealerships in litigation, consumer and regulatory issues. He served as lead defense counsel for the auto dealership in Melton v. General Motors, et al., the landmark case involving a defective ignition switch that led to GM’s recall of more than 2 million vehicles, a Congressional inquiry into GM's conduct, and record-breaking civil penalties levied against GM by the National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA).

He has tried cases in all of Georgia's federal judicial districts and many of Georgia's 49 judicial circuits, and he has represented clients in more than 75 appeals to the state and federal appellate courts in Georgia.

Matt is a member of industry-specific groups, including the Trucking Industry Defense Association (TIDA), the Transportation Lawyers Association (TLA), the Georgia Motor Trucking Association (GMTA), the Claims & Litigation Management Alliance (CLM), the Defense Research Institute (DRI), the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association (GDLA), the National Association of Dealer Counsel (NADC) and the Georgia Automobile Dealers Association (GADA).

He is one of two attorneys in the Country to be approved as an instructor for the North American Transportation Management Institute (NATMI), which provides internationally-recognized, university-affiliated professional certification and training for truck, bus, and transit fleet professionals. He teaches a segment on litigation during the quarterly NATMI classes held at GMTA.


Caroline Brown

Fisher Phillips, LLP - Attorney

Caroline Brown is an attorney with Fisher Phillips.  Since she joined its Atlanta office in 2001, her primary practice has been advising clients nationwide on preventive issues, representing employers in government investigations, and conducting compliance audits with respect to wage practices.  A substantial portion of her practice focuses on wage and hour law, including minimum wage, overtime, timekeeping, and exemptions under federal law.  Caroline also assists employers in efforts to ensure compliance with state wage-hour and wage-payment laws, including designing compensation plans, paid leave policies, and garnishment procedures.


Joshua H. Viau

Fisher Phillips, LLP - Attorney

Joshua H. Viau is Of Counsel in the Atlanta law firm of Fisher Phillips, LLP, where he focuses on representing companies in a variety of labor and employment matters including traditional labor relations matters and employment-related litigation. Josh advises and represents management in traditional labor matters including arbitrations, unfair labor practice cases, union elections, contract negotiations, strikes, and alternative dispute resolution. He also defends employers in litigation in the areas of discrimination, retaliation, harassment, compliance with leave and wage and hour laws and regulations, and employment-related contract disputes.  Mr. Viau’s experience includes guiding employers through reductions in force and individual employee separations to ensure that such actions are executed in compliance with applicable laws and regulations and in a manner that minimizes risk. He also provides clients with services aimed at compliance and litigation avoidance, including general human resources advice, creation and application of workplace policies and practices, training programs for management and employees, and workplace audits.  Mr. Joshua works with a variety of national and local clients including employers in manufacturing, construction, hospitality, pharmaceuticals, and retail. He is the former Chair of the Labor and Employment Law Section of the Georgia State Bar and is active in several business groups. Josh was selected to the Best Lawyers in America in 2016, and was recognized as a Georgia Super Lawyer since 2015 and Georgia Super Lawyer – Rising Star from 2006 through 2014.


Michael Nischan

Epic INsurance - Vice President, Transportation & Logistics Risk COntrol

Michael Nischan is responsible for the transportation risk control practice of EPIC Insurance Brokers and Consultants, working out of the Southeast Region office in Atlanta.  With experience in law enforcement, private industry management and consulting, he has a genuine understanding of what it takes to operate a fleet safely and profitably.  He helps motor carriers enhance culture and compliance, develops management and training programs, implements operational controls and educates all levels of the organization on transportation and security measures.  He is an instructor with the North American Transportation Management Institute (NATMI) and provides professional training courses on behalf of the Georgia Motor Trucking Association (GMTA).  He is the only Certified Cargo Security Professional (CCSP) employed by an insurance or risk management firm in Georgia and is active in the battle against cargo and equipment theft.  Mr. Nischan is a member of numerous organizations, including GMTA and the Southeastern Transportation Security Council (SETSC).  He is a graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College.


Richard Smith

AIG - Assistant Vice President, Truck Insurance Claims Group

Richard Smith is the Assistant Vice President in charge of AIG’s Truck Insurance Group claims office. Richard has been his current role since 2010, and is responsible for operations and outcomes of his office. AIG’s Truck Insurance Group is a boutique operation solely devoted to commercial ground transportation business partners in all 50 states. Richard has worked at AIG in various leadership roles since 2006. Prior to coming to AIG, Richard worked for 10 years at Liberty Mutual as a claims adjuster and on-scene investigator handling catastrophic losses for large Liberty Mutual insureds such as UPS and Comcast. Richard is a graduate of the University of Georgia with a degree in Journalism.


James Landrum

Federal Motor Carrier Compliance - Program Manager

 Jim is currently serving as the Georgia Divisions Federal Program Manager of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. In his current position, he oversees five federal investigators and 20 state investigators.  Jim has been serving in this position since 2014, prior he served as the Hazardous Material Specialist for the state of Georgia and Alabama.  Has the hazardous material specialist he conducted investigations involving companies transporting, shipping and receiving hazardous material.  He also conducted in-debt investigations on cargo tank manufactures and inspectors.  Jim has served the state as a member of the Georgia Department of Public Safety Motor Carrier Compliance Division as a law enforcement officer and investigator.
