Greg McGarity

University of Georgia - Athletic Director

As Director of Athletics at UGA, McGarity oversees a 21-sport athletics program supported by a budget of $123 million. During McGarity’s tenure as AD, 18 different Georgia teams have been ranked in the nation’s top 20 and 10 in the top ten. Georgia’s standing in the Learfield Directors’ Cup, which annually measures athletic teams success in NCAA championships, has improved from 20th in 2011 to 10th in 2013 and is consistently in the top 20. 

McGarity has also been a standard bearer for academic achievement. Since his arrival, Georgia student-athletes have been the recipients of 14 NCAA Post Graduate Scholarships, 28 CoSIDA Academic All-American awards, three NCAA Top Ten honors, three SEC Boyd McWhorter SEC Scholar-Athletes of the Year, and two SEC Brad Davis Community Service Awards. In the last six years, UGA has three winners of the SEC Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award, two winners of the SEC Brad Davis Community Service Award, and one SEC Sportsmanship Award winner. 

McGarity was named recipient of the 2013 Tom Osborne Award presented by the Collegiate and Professional Sports Dietitians Association (CPSDA) for special achievement and contributions to advanced-practice sports nutrition. A 1976 graduate of UGA’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, McGarity is a 2012 inductee into the Grady Fellowship, a recognition program to honor those whose influence, achievements and service to the media professions have enhanced the reputation of the Grady College. 

He served on the NCAA Division I Football Issues Committee from 2012-14. McGarity is also currently serving on the NCAA National Letter of Intent Football Recruiting Group, SEC Fan Experience Working Group, and the U.S. Tennis Association Athletic Director’s Advisory Group. At UF, he served as Executive Associate Athletic Director after serving as both an associate and senior associate athletic director during his tenure. His duties at Florida included assisting the athletic director in daily operations of the department, assisting in preparation and approval of the annual budget and extensive involvement in long-term planning, contracts, competition scheduling and employment searches, among other areas. McGarity was involved in the planning and supervision of several construction projects, including the expansion of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium and the William Heavener Football Complex. 

McGarity is married to the former Sheryl Holland, who graduated from UGA in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree in education. They have one son, Alex, a graduate of the University of Florida and the University of Georgia.


Michael J. Skordeles, AIF

Sun Trust Advisory Services - Director, US Macro Strategist

As SunTrust Advisory Services, Inc.’s Director, US Macro Strategist and Senior Vice President, Mike is responsible for analyzing the US and global economies and financial markets as well as helping formulate and communicate investment strategy, publishing commentaries for our clients. As part of the Portfolio & Market Strategy group, he helps manage over $11 billion in client assets. He is based in Atlanta.

Mike joined SunTrust in 2012 and brings more than 20 years of investment experience to the Investment Advisory Group. He came from Morgan Keegan, where he was a Managing Director and Market Strategist for over five years, writing extensively about the markets and the economy. He was a member of the firm’s Investment Strategy Committee and helped managed about $1.6 billion, serving as the portfolio manager overseeing the group’s tactical portfolio.

From 1999 to 2007, he was with McDonald Investments in Cleveland, Ohio, in a similar role as an analyst and strategist. He was a member of the firm’s Investment Policy Committee and other investment steering committees. Previously, he was a financial analyst at KeyCorp and began his career as a financial consultant with the Prudential.

Mike is a member of the National Association for Business Economics (NABE), the Atlanta Economics Club and the Investment Management Consultants Association. He was also the co- founder and past president of the Mid-South Association for Business Economics in Memphis. He holds the Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF) designation.

Mike earned a master of business administration at the Georgia Institute of Technology, focused on global business, including a certificate from Beijing University of Post & Telecommunications, where he did an international residency. He earned his undergraduate degree at Baldwin Wallace University. He and his wife Stephanie have three daughters.


Dave Manning

ATA Chairman and President - TCW, Inc.

Dave Manning is President of TCW based in Nashville, TN.  TCW was founded in 1948 as a small family-owned warehousing business serving the finished tobacco industry.  After joining TCW  in 1985, Dave was instrumental in leading the growth of the company from a single terminal to a diversified transportation enterprise with more than 600 employees and revenue in excess of $80 million.  Today TCW offers a network of diversified transportation services throughout the southeast.  Services include intermodal operations, consolidation and distribution, dedicated transportation, specialized transportation, and warehousing. TCW is still family owned and operated by the third generation of the George family.

Dave has served in many roles in the Tennessee Trucking Association, the American Trucking Association, and the Intermodal Association of North America  (IANA).  He currently serves as Chairman of ATA, co-chair of the Truck Pac for TTA, and as the Treasurer of IANA.  He also has served for more than a decade as a member on the nine-member  Committee which administers the Uniform Intermodal Interchange Agreement; the standard interchange agreement for the intermodal industry.  Dave serves as the Chairman and President of the newly formed North American Chassis Pool Cooperative.

Dave graduated Summa cum Laude from Tennessee Technology University in Cookeville, TN with a BS in Business Management.  He married his junior high school sweetheart, Betsy, in 1975.  They have two children and six grandchildren.


Chris Burruss

Blockchain in Transport Alliance - president

Chris is the president of the Blockchain in Transport Alliance (BiTA) and the Blockchain in Transport Alliance Standards Council (BiTAS).  He is a 26-year veteran of the trucking industry specializing in organizational management.  During is career he held the position of President of The Truckload Carriers Association and the Tennessee Trucking Association as well as Vice President of the Missouri Trucking Association.

He has worked with trucking companies of all sizes; from small carriers to Fortune 500 companies.  In addition, he has worked closely with the extensive vendor community that serves and works alongside the trucking industry as well as other interests in the supply chain.  Chris has lobbied on behalf of trucking at the local, state and national levels.  He has also worked closely with state and federal agencies on trucking related matters. 

He is a combat veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
