GMTA and Safety, Hand in Hand
The GMTA Safety Management Council provides opportunites for safety professionals in the trucking industry to not only gain insight from peers but also share best practices experience.
By joining the Council, safety professionals have access to information, ideas and professional development for every type of operation.
A Safety Manager's challenge is to stay current regarding requirements in driver safety and education, human resource management, enforcement issues, local, state and federal regulations. Our monthly meetings include opportunities to learn new methods and share ideas for improving safety at your company.
Promoting highway safety among Georgia motorists and the trucking community is the Council’s primary focus. Members assist with voluntary inspections of commercial vehicles at weigh stations; hosting public outreach projects; and teaching drivers how to share the road safely.
GMTA’s Safety Management Council works closely with a multi-agency alliance called NETS, the Network of Employers for Traffic Safety which includes representatives from:
- The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety
- The Georgia Department of Public Safety and its Motor Carrier Compliance Division
- The Georgia Department of Transportation
- The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration National Safety Council
- The Georgia Road Team
- GMTA-member trucking companies and others.
Partnerships with these groups have led to highway safety initiatives which include:
- Drive Safely Work Week
- Law Enforcement and Truckers for Safety
- Georgia Truck Safety Awareness Week
- Hands Across the Border
- Experts On the Road.
The Council has earned the Summa Cum Laude award for excellence from the American Trucking Associations Safety Management Council for leadership and safety events. Join us. After all, highway safety is everybody’s business!
